In May Vulcano can be reached by hydrofoil from Milazzo and Messina and by ferry boat from Milazzo and Naples. Milazzo (from where there are many departures to Vulcano) can be reached by bus from Catania airport and from Reggio Calabria airport via Messina or by train from many Italian cities (Rome, Naples, Venice, Turin, Palermo and Messina). The main ship companies navigating the Aeolian Islands, are:

• Siremar (departures from Naples and Milazzo)
• Liberty Lines (ex Ustica Lines) (departures from Messina, Milazzo, Palermo)
