The motivation and aim of this School followed by a Workshop is to foster the flourishing of science at the interface between different fields, where methods in one field are used for the problems of others and vice versa, having in mind the need to strengthen areas of research which are "in between". The School and Workshop will cover an area - that of nanostructures and nanotubes - of overlap between field theory and statistical mechanics, with important consequences also for the study of condensed matter physics and and chemistry and with impressive potential for applications in many fields.
THE SCHOOL, Wednesday Oct. 17 - Wednesday Oct. 24, will cover topics such as:
- Theoretical and experimental aspects of
nanotubes
- Magnetic properties of nanostructures
- Self-organizing Quantum Dots
THE WORKSHOP, Thursday Oct. 25 - Saturday Oct. 27, will have a broader spectrum and will cover topics such as:
- Theoretical and experimental aspects of
nanotubes
- Quantum dots, quantum wires and their
electronic and magnetic properties
- Coupled dots and arrays of dots
- Nanocomposites
- Electronic, optical and transport properties
of nanostructures
- Techniques of nanofabrication
- Characterization techniques of nanotubes
and nanostructures
- Applications of nanotubes and nanostructures
- Physical properties of two-dimensional
systems
CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
Contributions are welcome in the above
mentioned topics. About 35 oral presentations, including a few invited
lectures are foreseen, as well as a poster session.
In order to allow
us to ready a booklet, to be distributed upon arrival to the participants,
all lecturers at the School, as well as all speakers at the Workshop, are
kindly yet firmly requested to send their written-up contributions (lectures
and talks), possibly in LaTeX format, before October,
10 2001 to nn2001@lnf.infn.it
Abstracts,
one page in A4 format, are due on July, 30 2001.
To submit an abstract you are invited to send it by e-mail to the following
electronic address: nn2001@lnf.infn.it.
In the abstract please indicate your preference for oral or poster presentation.
A selection based on abstracts will be made by the organizing and advisory
committees.
Acceptance will be communicated on August
