About
Born in Milan and raised in North-Eastern Italy in the region called "Friuli", I completed
my Ph.D. at SISSA-ISAS (Trieste) in 1991. My work there focused on
high precision electroweak measurements, loop corrections to
electroweak observables, and searches for signals of new physics.
I carried out my first postdoc at the University of Michigan (Ann
Arbor, USA) and a second postdoc at the Weizmann Institute of
Science (Rehovot, IL). In 1996 I was offered a professorship
position aimed to set up a Ph.D. program in physics in the
University of Antioquia (MedellĂn, CO)
to serve the whole Department of Antioquia (about 6 millions
population).
In UdeA I served as a
full time professor until 2007 and then half-time until
2009. I supervised
five Ph.D., six M.Sc. and two B.Sc. thesis. All the students
which I supervised are presently holding academic positions.
In 2001 I joined as staff researcher the Theory Group of the INFN
Frascati National Laboratories. I became Senior Researcher in
2009, and Research Director in 2019. Since 2015 I am Head of the
LNF Theory Group. During my career I have been working on
disparate topics in particle and astroparticle physics. My present
interests focus on axion theory and phenomenology, dark matter and physics of
dark sectors, neutrino and flavour physics, and more in general
on physics beyond the standard model in all its aspects.
I love traveling especially in un-touristic regions of the world.
I am a fan of scuba diving and of free diving. I enjoy skiing,
ice-skating, sailing and walking in the mountains.
