The Physics of FINUDA at The DA?NE ?-Factory
- FINUDA studies spectroscopy and decay of hypernuclei
- DA?NE is a source of monochromatic and collinear K+K- pairs, from the decays of the ?(2010) meson
- Negative kaons are stopped in a thin target, and a hypernucleus is formed by replacing a light (up or down) quark with the strange quark carried by the stopped kaon
The momentum of the prompt pion gives the hypernuclear energy level The hypernuclear production is followed by the non-mesonic decays
The FINUDA event rate: about 100/hour detected hypernuclei at L = 1032 cm-2 s-1
- Other FINUDA physics topics: hypernuclear lifetimes, study of the ?I =1/2 rule, and KN scattering
