The LHC project: machine status and commissioning perspectives Abstract The CERN Large Hadron Collider
is based on about 1600 main superconducting magnets, operating between
7 and 9 Tesla, cooled by superfluid helium.
The magnet construction proceeds according schedule: more than half have been delivered and did pass the qualification tests. The project is entering in the final phase of transport, installation and test inside the tunnel of the magnets and of the auxiliary systems. Then the first beam tests are foreseen in 2007. The main features of the project will be illustrated, as well the comparison of the obtained results with the project parameters. Possible scenarios for the machine commissioning will be presented. |
