       TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITIONS
           IN EXPERIMENTAL HIGH ENERGY PHYSICS

The Physics department at the University of Texas-Pan American is seeking
qualified applicants to fill three tenure-track positions in high energy
physics, beginning September 1, 2002. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in physics
with research specialization in experimental high energy physics.  As a part of
the institutional research agenda, we are planning to establish an
externally-funded high energy physics research center in south Texas.
Successful candidates will be required to actively contribute to the UTPA HEP
group's existing research activities with CLEO and to our future HEP research
efforts.  Prior research experience in both experimental data analysis and
hardware is a definite plus. Commitment to excellence in research and teaching
is expected. Salary will be commensurate with qualification. Interested
applicants are asked to send a letter of interest, a CV, a summary of prior
research experience and goals, a copy of all college transcripts, and three
letters of recommendation to Prof. Akhtar Mahmood, Department of Physics &
Geology, University of Texas-Pan American, 1201 West University Drive,
Edinburg, Texas 78539-2999.  Review of applications is anticipated to begin in
the last week of January 2002 and will continue until the positions are filled.
