Straw are held in the mechanical structure (Clessidra) holes by feed-through assemblies glued to both straw ends.
The same assembly provides, for each straw,
housing for preamplifier (fig. a), wire-holding
pins and gas flow (fig. b)
Straw and anode wire are tensioned to 17.5 N and 1 N respectively
Before insertion straw are tested for gas leakage. Straws are accepted if they have a gas leak less than 10-3 Nl/hour. After insertion straw are continuously monitored for gas tightness via an automated system (see E. Pace poster)
The total leak rate measured is 1.8 Nl/day with a total input flux of 60 Nl/hour
